What is Wire EDM?

Wire EDM uses a thin electrode wire controlled by a CNC to cut or shape a metal workpiece. When an electric current charges the wire, sparks are created between the wire and the workpiece, melting the workpiece surface.

 

Because the cutting wire never directly touches the workpiece, neither the cutting path nor the shape of the material is altered. Capable of producing complex shapes, tight tolerances, and an excellent surface finish, wire EDM is ideal for hard and complex materials.

 

However, mastering wire EDM is not simple. It requires expertise to ensure consistently high-quality results.
