Hongsinn Metal Finishing

At Hongsinn Metal Finishing, we offer unique aluminum anodizing programs that our competitors cannot match, especially in terms of part size and complexity. With 60 years of experience in the electroplating and plating industries, our combination of quality and innovation sets us apart among metal finishing and plating providers.

We offer Type II and Type III sulfuric acid anodizing services for aluminum parts of all sizes.

Aluminum Anodizing Process

Aluminum anodizing is accomplished by immersing the aluminum in a tank filled with an acidic electrolyte and passing electricity through the solution. During this process, a cathode is installed inside the tank, while the aluminum acts as the anode. Anodizing transforms the metal surface into a durable and corrosion-resistant aluminum oxide finish.

The finished surface is highly porous, allowing for subsequent dyeing and/or sealing. We build our own tanks and have the ability to modify the system as necessary to meet diverse processing needs.

Sulfuric Acid Anodizing - Type II

Type II aluminum anodizing uses a sulfuric acid bath to create an anodized aluminum surface. This method is often referred to as"conventional anodizing."Type II anodizing is highly versatile and provides an ideal surface for dye applications. The resulting color will vary depending on the aluminum alloy composition. Aluminum containing low-alloying elements exhibits little color variation, meaning Type II anodizing can be dyed to virtually any color or shade.

Currently available colors include: blue, green, gold, orange, red, purple, and gray. In addition to the colors listed, the maximum treatment size for most colors is 3 feet by 3 feet. We can also quote for larger tank installations upon request.

Sulfuric Acid Anodizing - Type III

Type III sulfuric acid anodizing, often referred to as"hardcoat anodizing,"is primarily used to protect aluminum parts subjected to severe wear conditions. Hardcoat anodizing produces a denser anodized layer, up to 0.002 inches thick. This type of anodizing is most susceptible to staining due to its deeply porous surface.

It is important to note that the hardcoat process darkens and alters the base metal, resulting in a significantly different color than Type II anodizing. For example, red dye on Type II appears fire engine red, while red dye on Type III appears deep burgundy.

Choosing the Right Manufacturing Partner

When selecting suppliers for anodizing, stainless steel parts, or factory equipment, consider:
✔ Industry Certifications – ISO 9001, AS9100, FDA compliance
✔ Turnaround Time – Prototyping vs. bulk production
✔ Material Expertise – Knowledge of aluminum vs. stainless steel

From aluminum anodizing services that enhance durability to custom stainless steel parts built for strength, and an efficiently designed parts of a factory system, each component plays a vital role in modern manufacturing.
