CNC Turning is a machining process that removes material from a workpiece using a computer-controlled single-point cutting tool. During operation, the workpiece rotates while the machine tool feeds the tool in a straight line along its surface to remove excess material until the desired diameter is achieved.
This machining process typically produces cylindrical parts that may include internal and external features such as grooves, tapers, or threads. CNC turning processes can be used for a variety of machining operations, including:
Boiling: Enlarging or fine-tuning the diameter of a hole.
Facing: Machining the end faces of a workpiece to ensure flatness and dimensions.
Grooving: Cutting grooves or notches into the surface of a workpiece.
Thread cutting: Machining threads on a component.

Thread cutting on CNC lathes
Thread cutting is the machining process of producing threads on a CNC lathe using indexable threading inserts. In this operation, the CNC lathe controls the uniformity of the thread by maintaining a programmed feed rate, thus ensuring the stability and consistency of the cutting process.
The shape and size of the thread are determined by the design of the threading inserts, ensuring that the cut thread meets specific specifications. This process is widely used in manufacturing various threaded parts to meet the needs of mechanical connections and assembly.
CNC Boring and Countersinking
CNC boring and countersinking are specialized machining processes used to machine on top of existing holes. In these operations, the machine tool removes material at the hole opening to create space for fasteners (such as screws or bolts) so that they are flush with the workpiece surface when fully inserted.
Countersinks: Typically conical, they provide depth and space to accommodate the head of the fastener.
Bore-out holes: These are cylindrical, typically with a diameter larger than the hole diameter to ensure smooth insertion of the fastener.
