What is cutting?

Sheet material cutting is a manufacturing process that creates specific shapes by cutting flat raw materials along a defined contour. This process is typically performed using high-powered CNC lasers or water jets.
Cutting can be used for everything from one-off batch production to mass production, is suitable for custom designs, and can cut a variety of materials, including plastics, elastomers, composites, and metals. Sheet material cutting is used not only for manufacturing finished products but also commonly for preparing blanks for other processing methods such as sheet metal fabrication or metal stamping.

How Hongsinn Sheet Metal Cutting Works

Hongsinn's sheet metal cutting services utilize advanced technology from top laser cutting and waterjet equipment manufacturers in the US and globally. Our manufacturers precisely guide laser cutting, waterjet, or plasma cutting machines to cut sheet materials by converting CAD and drawing data into machine code.
If your project requires assembly or post-processing, our manufacturers can provide turnkey machining services. With the efficiency and precision of these CNC-controlled cutting tools, combined with Hongsinn's diverse range of materials, suppliers, and post-processing options, you can obtain parts suitable for any application.
We regularly support a wide range of industries, including aerospace, defense, automotive, energy, industrial, medical, dental, art, robotics, and consumer goods.

What are the differences between laser cutting and waterjet cutting?

Laser cutting uses concentrated heat to cut two-dimensional profiles, typically producing a narrow kerf with a width of less than 0.010 inches. This method is highly efficient and suitable for engraving, part marking, and cutting thin metals and plastics.
Waterjet cutting, on the other hand, uses a high-pressure stream of water to cut materials without generating heat, making it ideal for thicker metals and heat-sensitive materials. Waterjet cutting produces a wider kerf, typically between 0.040” and 0.050”, but generally maintains the same tolerances as laser cutting, approximately ±0.010 inches. It is particularly adept at cutting soft materials such as foam, gaskets, and certain plastics that may release harmful gases when heated.
Overall, laser cutting is faster and suitable for processing thin materials, while waterjet cutting excels at handling thicker materials. Hongsinn collaborates with various laser and waterjet cutting suppliers to ensure that each project is automatically matched with the appropriate supplier.

Packaging and Shipping

Bent sheet metal parts are typically packaged in flat, rectangular boxes. Each box is fitted with correctly configured components to ensure they remain undamaged during transit. The packaging is designed to protect the parts while also being sealed to prevent moisture and other contaminants from entering.
The boxes can be marked with the customer's name and address, as well as other order-related information. Once packaged, the boxes are placed in larger shipping containers, such as pallets, to ensure the safe delivery of the parts.
Once the parts are packaged and ready for shipment, they are monitored using a tracking number. This tracking number allows customers to monitor the shipping progress in real time, ensuring that items are delivered on time and without incident.
